Marriage Resources
Ephesians 5:25 is very clear about how men are to love their wife. . . “just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her”. Yup, Jesus set the example of servant leadership. My wife and I decided that in order to be intentional about our marriage, we needed to do at least one marriage event a year. We also decided to seek out other married couples who wanted also to be intentional about their pursuit of Christ within their marriage. You can do the same. . . find 2-4 other couples who want to seek Christ together in their marriage and start getting together regularly.
We choose to meet every other Friday night (parents should line up a babysitter). We host and provide the main meal while the other couples bring sides to share. We eat for an hour or so, then jump into discussion for 90 minutes or so.
The main focus is to submit our marriages to Jesus and seek His wisdom on how to strengthen it. If you haven’t already experienced it, the Lord will use your wife to reveal areas of your heart that need work. Your wife should be the closest human being that you know, and therefore will be used by the Lord.
Here are some of the topics we have used in our marriage group. I recommend passing out the Guidelines document which sets expectations as well as emphasizes that your group is a safe place. Both you and your wife need to know it is safe to discuss any area of your marriage. Then you can use the other documents as guides for your discussion.
